THE FUTURE OF GREEN TRANSPORT?

Straight from the Geneva car show comes a truly environmentally friendly personal transport option. While every major manufacturer seems to be releasing an electric car (Bmw i3, Nissan leaf), it’s clear that while they may be emission free, their production process certainly isn’t.

UPM, the makers of the Biofore Concept, are experts in biomaterials and the construction of the car is made up of UPM's Grada thermoformable wood material and UPM Formi cellulose fibre biocomposite. The composite nature of these materials means the Biofore Concept is just as strong (and safe) as any car on the road today, it’s powered with a small diesel engine that’s fuelled with UPM’s BioVerno, a novel wood-based renewable diesel made 100% outside the food value chain.

In a nod to its sustainable roots, the look of the car has been inspired by a pine cone - whether you like the styling or not (we think it looks v cute!), it feels like a step in the right direction for an industry that’s going through major change as consumers look to cheaper and greener transport possibilities.
